Masterpieces of Architecture – Internationally renowned architects designed the villas of the Eden Reserve Hotel & Villas

The villa ensemble of the Eden Reserve Hotel & Villas is an architectural wonder, perfectly embedded in the hilly Mediterranean landscape and offering dreamlike views of Lake Garda. From David Chipperfield, Matteo Thun and Richard Meier to Marc Mark from ATP Sphere, each of the seven villas was designed by an international star architect, bearing their unmistakable signature.

Architect

David Chipperfield

David Chipperfield, born in London in 1953, studied architecture and also worked in the offices of Richard Rogers and Norman Foster after graduating. In 1985 he founded the architectural office David Chipperfield Architects in London before opening offices in Berlin, Shanghai and Milan. Chipperfield works internationally, and his work has been awarded many prizes.

In his buildings, David Chipperfield seeks to engage with the site and the context. He prefers to use natural, coordinated materials in a rather minimalist formal language. These principles also characterise the two villas designed by David Chipperfield Architects Berlin, which are covered with cypress and olive trees. The two- and three-storey buildings follow the topography of the slope, and the villas quote the architecture of the limonaias: lemon gardens that used to characterise the southwestern shore of Lake Garda in particular. Enclosed on three sides on the slope with massive quarry stone walls, the villas open onto Lake Garda with terraces shaded by pergolas. With their graceful stone columns, they reference typical building elements of the Limonaias.

Chipperfield has received many awards and prizes for outstanding designs. He himself was elevated to the peerage by Queen Elizabeth II in 2010 for his services to architecture, and a year earlier, he had received the Federal Cross of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany. At the beginning of 2023, he was awarded the internationally very renowned Pritzker Architecture Prize.

Architecture in a class of its own

With their minimalist elegance, the villas on Lake Garda become box seats in a class of their own.
