The Valtènesi in Rosa wine festival in Castello di Moniga del Garda at the beginning of June sees the whole region celebrate the world-famous rosé wine for three days, with over 100 varieties of wine and champagnes from over 30 wineries available.
On the western coast of Lake Garda lies the small region of Valtènesi, where an excellent rosé wine is grown and produced. On the weekend of the 3rd, 4th and 5th of June 2022, the Valtènesi Rosé will be celebrated with a big event. In the unique location of the Castello di Moniga del Garda in the heart of the Valtènesi area, over 100 rosé wines and champagnes will be presented and offered for tasting at the Valténesi in Rosa 2022 wine festival.
Guests at the wine festival in the castle of Moniga will have the opportunity to embark on a highly interesting sensory journey through the wine region at the degustation stations. More than 30 wineries will present their unique rosé wines and champagnes in the medieval ambience of the castle. Sixteen villages on the southwestern coast of Lake Garda, from Salò and Gavardo in the north to Bedizzole and Lonato in the south, have also joined forces to form a consortium to present and serve rosé wine grown in the region.
The three-day event programme also offers wine tastings led by experienced sommeliers included in the entrance fee (reservation required). Typical dishes of Alto Garda will also be served, harmonising perfectly with the rosé wines.

Valtènesi region – perfect micro-climate for growing rosé
The Valtènesi area of around 370 square kilometres and 20 kilometres of coastline is characterised by a unique sub-Mediterranean microclimate that is strongly influenced by Lake Garda. Alongside 3,000 hours of sunshine a year, mild breezes in the morning and evening characterise this small region on Lake Garda. Winegrowers began to cultivate and produce rosé wines here as early as the end of the 19th century, and today the wineries in the Valtènesi have optimised the cultivation of grapes for consistently high-quality rosé wines.
In order to produce a rosé wine in the coastal region that offers a very high-quality standard, a very dedicated viticulture is necessary, says Mattia Vezzola. He is now the fourth generation to grow grapes for rosé wines at his Costaripa winery near Moniga. The oenologist also runs the Bellavista winery in nearby Franciacorta, which is one of Italy’s leading wineries. Above all, he is also active as vice-president of the Valtènesi Consortium and a tireless ambassador for the rosé wine of the region. His products are considered by wine connoisseurs to be unrivalled in their finesse throughout Italy.
